Financial matters

Whether you have already taken the decision to separate or simply wish to secure your current circumstances with an agreement, Hodders Law Family department has the expertise to help you every step of the way.

Dealing with finances on separation

Our Family department is focused on helping you try to resolve disputes regarding the division of your assets following your separation. This can be legally complex, but with our experienced legal advice, we can guide you through the process with ease.

We are experienced in assisting clients with disputes ranging from limited assets, to complex matters involving numerous properties, pensions, businesses and trusts. In cases where you need to take urgent action to protect your assets, we act swiftly and efficiently to secure your rights. We also advise you practically in dealing with maintenance for you and/or your children.

You may have already been able to reach a proposed financial agreement, or you may be doing so through mediation; we can advise you on the terms of the agreement and discuss with you the next steps to formalise this.

In many cases we are able to help resolve disputes before they reach court, which saves you time, money and above all the stress of a lengthy court battle. We do this by providing you with comprehensive advice so that you are in a position to make an informed decision.

It may be that your case needs to be taken to court; we recognise it is vital to discuss the entire process with you in advance so that we can give you the best possible estimate of the costs involved in each and every stage of this, and to prepare you for any Court hearings and their likely outcome.

Planning for your financial future

We are experienced in advising clients in reaching agreements about their future finances. Many couples decide to formalise agreements about what would happen in the future, should they separate. These are known as prenuptial agreements. If you decide later into your marriage to formalise an agreement, or the circumstances have changed since you drew up your prenuptial agreement, then we can assist you in creating a postnuptial agreement at any stage.

It is also advisable that those soon to marry, or those set to divorce, make a will; any previous will you have will be void once you marry or divorce, and if you don’t have a will it is important to obtain advice to ensure your wishes are followed. With an experienced department dealing with Wills and Probate, Hodders Law can assist you in all aspects of your case.

Our Testimonials

“Dear Karen,

Thank you very much indeed for all that you, William Brown, and your support team at Hodders have done in connection with this purchase, and with the associated sale of Wallers Haven Barn. There were many times when I thought that we were not going to make one or the other, and it is in very large part down to your persistence that we are exchanged. Your care, patience and attention to detail have been much appreciated.
